To the heroes and heroines
Who get no plaques.
Who in their small ways
And endless battles
Fight their own villains.
To the heroes and heroines
Who on their sleeves wear their hearts
Who demand neither staues
Nor favours
Who trudge on and mind their brothers
And put first their sisters
And defend their sons and daughters.
To the heroes and heroines
Who ride the waves
Who keep raising their heads
Their hands
Their voices
To speak up
And act right.
To the heroes and heroines
Who know that they are kings and queens
Leading princes and princesses.
To the faceless heroes and heroines
With no marching bands
With no chase cars
No ceremonial swords
Or pretentious smiles
Who dig deep each dawn
To stay true to themselves till dusk.
To the faceless heroes and heroines
Who work the works
Without waiting for pats on their backs.
